Some wedding days stay with you long after you put your cameras away. Emily and Jacob’s wedding was one of those days. From emotional first looks and meaningful family traditions to a beautiful ceremony and golden sunset portraits, their day was filled with moments that reminded us why we love wedding photography.

As a husband-and-wife photography team, we had the pleasure of capturing their entire wedding day at Sable Creek Homestead in Minooka, Illinois. With its rustic charm and elegant touches, the venue was a beautiful setting for their celebration.

From getting ready in the morning to dancing with their loved ones in the evening, we were there to document the moments that made their wedding uniquely theirs.

The morning started with Emily and her bridesmaids getting ready together. The girls wore matching dusty blue pajama sets, bringing a fun and coordinated touch to the morning. Dusty blue was one of Emily’s wedding colors, and it was lovely to see those details come together.

We spent some time photographing the little details before moving on to one of the most emotional moments of the morning: Emily’s first look with her dad.

There were tears, hugs, and so much love in that moment. Watching a father see his daughter on her wedding day is always special, and this was no exception. These are the kinds of memories we want couples to have photographs of for years to come.

Afterward, we joined Jacob as he got ready with the help of his mom and dad. We captured a few moments as they helped him with his final touches before it was time for him to see Emily.

One of our favorite parts of a wedding day is when a couple chooses to have a first look before the ceremony. It gives them a chance to slow down and enjoy a moment together before the busy schedule begins.

For Emily and Jacob, their first look was full of emotion. They cried, laughed, hugged, and gently wiped away each other’s tears. We gave them time to be together without rushing the moment, allowing them to enjoy what was happening.

Those quiet moments are so important. Throughout a wedding day, couples are often surrounded by family, friends, and guests. Having a little time alone together can make such a difference.

Emily and Jacob also chose to exchange their vows during their first look. Their words made the moment even more meaningful, and it was beautiful to witness them sharing those promises privately before the ceremony.

We always love when couples make space for moments like these. The wedding day moves quickly, but the memories made when you pause and simply be together can stay with you forever.

Because we were ahead of schedule, we also had extra time for wedding party portraits. Emily’s bridesmaids wore dusty blue dresses, while the groomsmen looked sharp in gray suits. The colors worked beautifully together and fit the overall feel of the day.

Before the ceremony, Emily and Jacob included a meaningful family tradition involving pennies in the bride’s shoes.

Emily’s dad and Jacob’s dad each placed a penny inside one of her shoes. This tradition symbolizes wealth, prosperity, and good fortune for the marriage.

We loved that both fathers were part of this moment. It was a simple gesture, but one filled with meaning and family connection.

Then Jacob helped Emily put on her shoes, giving us a sweet little Cinderella moment to photograph. It was another reminder that some of the most memorable photographs come from the small things that happen naturally throughout the day.

The ceremony began under beautiful sunshine, with the weather feeling just right—not too hot and not too cold. It was a lovely setting for Emily and Jacob to exchange their vows and celebrate with the people closest to them.

They included a Jack and Coke unity ceremony, mixing their drinks as part of their celebration. We always enjoy seeing couples bring personal touches into their wedding day, especially traditions that reflect who they are together.

After the vows, ring exchange, and first kiss, it was time to celebrate their first moments as husband and wife.

One of my favorite moments was their exit kiss and dip. They did it so beautifully! It was romantic, joyful, and such a fun moment to capture.

Following the ceremony, we gathered everyone for family portraits. A beautiful willow tree stood in the background, with sunlight filtering through its leaves. The soft, warm light created a lovely setting for these photographs, and we took advantage of it to capture more portraits of Emily and Jacob as well.

If there is one part of Emily and Jacob’s wedding day that I keep coming back to, it is their sunset portraits.

We headed out into the fields as the light became soft and golden. The warm glow, the open landscape, and the way Emily and Jacob interacted with each other made this part of the day especially beautiful.

Their connection was so natural. You could see their love in the way they looked at each other, held one another, and enjoyed being together. We didn't need to force anything. We simply gave them a little direction when needed and let their connection do the rest.

As we photographed them, I kept looking at the images on the back of my camera and thinking about how beautiful they were. I honestly wanted to start editing them right there! Looking back, maybe bringing my laptop along would have been a good idea.

Of course, I had to wait until we got home, but I was already excited to see the final photographs.

Choosing just one image for the cover of this blog was surprisingly difficult. There were so many photographs I loved, each with something special about it. Some stood out because of the golden light, while others captured a particular expression or a sweet moment between Emily and Jacob.

This is one of the reasons sunset portraits are so special to us. The light is beautiful, but it is the connection between the couple that makes the photographs meaningful. Years from now, we hope these images will bring Emily and Jacob right back to that evening and remind them of how it felt to be together on their wedding day.

After sunset portraits, we headed back inside for the reception, where the celebration continued.

The speeches were filled with emotion, and there were plenty of tears as family and friends shared their love and well wishes for Emily and Jacob. It was clear how much they mean to the people around them.

The evening also included several special family dances, from the father-daughter and mother-son dances to a beautiful mother-daughter dance that became even more meaningful when Emily’s sister joined them halfway through the song. These moments were intimate and meaningful, bringing attention to the family relationships that are such an important part of a wedding day.

Then the dance floor opened, and the atmosphere shifted into a joyful celebration. Everyone was dancing, laughing, and having a wonderful time.

Throughout the day, one thing stood out to us: the love between Emily and Jacob was easy to see. As high school sweethearts, they share a history together, and watching them celebrate this new chapter surrounded by their loved ones was truly special.

From the quiet moments during their first look to the energy on the dance floor, their wedding day was full of different emotions, each one worth remembering.

Emily and Jacob, thank you for allowing us to be part of such an important day in your lives. We loved capturing your story, from the emotional moments you shared privately to the laughter, happy tears, and beautiful sunset portraits.
